Introduction
In this course, the students will delve into the technical and legal aspects related to data privacy. It has been seen since time immemorial, ‘privacy’ has been considered one of man’s most prized possession. The concept of ‘privacy’ has evolved from being a right within the four walls of the house to a right to be let alone and finally, the inviolable core of an individual’s personality. Additionally, the advent of Information technology and the dawn of the ‘Digital Age’ had a significant impact on the privacy and data of an individual. The ‘Internet Age’ has made the privacy and data of an individual vulnerable to hacking, unauthorised access, and theft from a computer, computer resources, and computer networks. The debate about the right to privacy and data protection as a human right began with the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948. Since then, the status of the right to privacy and data protection has been elevated from a mere human right to an implicit fundamental right. In the COVID era, the threat to the privacy and data of an individual has become more prominent due to the increased dependence of individuals and organisations on the internet and other web services. In this context, the course has been designed for the students of BSCLLB Program. The course aims to offer an insight into the fundamental principles underlying the protection of data and privacy of an individual and organisation, and at the same time expose the students to technical measures to prevent unauthorised access and manage access to a computer, computer resources, and computer networks.
